Pinisi for the Country (Pinisi bagi Negeri) at Losari Beach

sketch Pinisi boat at losari beach1

Pinisi (from Wikipedia)
The pinisi or phinisi is a traditional Indonesian two-masted sailing ship. It was mainly built by the Konjo tribe, a sub-ethnic group of Bugis-Makassar mostly residents at the Bulukumba regency of South Sulawesi but was, and still is used widely by the Buginese and Makassarese, mostly for inter-insular transportation, cargo and fishing purposes within Indonesian archipelago.

If you happen to pass in front of losari beach you will easily see a pinisi boat moored at the floating dock of losari main pavillion.

This pinisi is sponsored by one of the large automotive company in Indonesia and is a part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in coral reef conservation, and education development of maritime culture and environmental conservation in Makassar. This ship is used to sail around Samalona Island, to plant coral reefs.

I sketch this pinisi boat using Lamy Fountain pen and later colored it with Faber-Castell watercolor pencil.
This is the first time I use watercolor pencil. The result is clearly far from being good.😅

The Floating Mosque

sketch of The Floating Mosque Losari

One of the interesting places for those who visit Losari beach is the floating mosque.  Masjid Amirul Mukminin is so called also become the key landmark of the Losari Beach. The mosque is also claimed to be the first floating mosque in Indonesia. Situated in the northeastern coast of Losari the mosque has 3 floor and 1,683 meter square large. This mosque can accommodate up to 500 worshipers.
I made this sketch a few weeks before I wash it. To be honest I do not like my finished wash of water under the mosque. I am still trying to get use to the watercolor behave at paper. Things that sometimes frustrated me.😅😅

Volkswagen "Food Truck" at Losari Beach

Volkswagen as a food truck at losari beach

When I was about to leave the Beach Platform of Losari, one unusual car caught my attention. It was a VW Kombi's car parked at the front entrance. A VW Kombi painted in black, fitted with a portable canvas tent is apparently used by its owner as "Food Truck". I do not know what this "walking restaurant" is selling because it is still closed that morning but it looks like drinks or snacks.
It's been very rare that Volkswagen Kombinationskraftwagen (maybe produced in late 70’s) can be found in the street and also is functioned as "Food Truck". I think is worth to sketch😁
